Welcome to my summer blog! I’ve never blogged before but I figured this is the best way to record my adventures and share with everyone at home what I’m doing. This summer I'm participating in Bike & Build, a cross-country biking trip to raise money and awareness for affordable housing. After a friend mentioned Bike & Build to me this past summer, I knew that it was something I would love to do. I can picture no better summer than one spent riding my bike, traveling the U.S. and building houses. I'll be biking with 31 other young adults across the central part of the U.S. Above is a picture of our route.
With the countdown to departure now at 24 days, reality is starting to set in that this trip is definitely happening—and happening soon. I have almost all my gear and I’m trying to train as much as possible. It has been beautiful in Williamsburg and the warm weather is perfect for biking. I just wish that I could skip over finals and jump ahead to May 19th and the start of this trip.
As far as fundraising goes, I am almost at my goal. I’ve received so much support from family and friends and I really appreciate everyone’s advice and words of encouragement. If you would still like to donate, please visit Bike & Build’s website (http://www.bikeandbuild.org). To make a contribution via credit card click on Donate, select “RIDER NAME” under the drop-down menu and continue with the instructions. If you prefer to write a check, please address checks to Bike & Build and send them to: Bike & Build 6109 Ridge Ave, Bldg 2 Philadelphia, PA 19128 with my name on the memo line. A large portion of this money goes directly to support affordable housing organizations. I thank you for any support you can give.
Please check out Bike & Build’s website (http://www.bikeandbuild.org) for more information about the organization, to see the route I’ll be taking (http://www.bikeandbuild.org/cms/content/view/30/47/) and more information about why I am doing this (http://bikeandbuild.org/rider/3694).
Lastly, please let me know if you have any questions or advice! I LOVE to talk to people about Bike & Build so do not hesitate to contact me (cgrady515@gmail.com) if you want!
Love, Caroline
